ProjectsLoan Guarantee SchemeWorking together with the Aspen Institute, US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and the Palestinian Investment Fund (PIF), The Portland Trust has designed the details of a US/Palestinian loan guarantee scheme that would encourage banks to extend credit and boost the provision of affordable loan finance for Palestinian SMEs. We also engaged with the EU together with the UK Treasury and this led to the EIB and European Commission jointly providing an additional €23m of funding towards a European loan guarantees fund run by KfW. Microfinance in the Palestinian TerritoriesThe Portland Trust, in partnership with Planet Finance, is working to build the capacity of the Palestinian Network for Small and Micro Finance to support the sector and to provide technical assistance. We are also researching other initiatives in the microfinance sector including potential projects with individual Palestinian MFIs such as PARC and Al Rafah Bank. Galilee loan guarantee projectThe Portland Trust is working with Koret Israel Economic Development Funds (KIEDF) to establish a joint initiative to facilitate economic development and employment creation in the Galilee region. The initiative will facilitate small business and micro-enterprise financing by expanding significantly the existing loan fund programs operated by KIEDF. |
